The Backsplash Diary started because my family and I kept learning things the hard way during our own renovations—and then discovering later that someone had already figured it out. We launched this site to share what we've discovered and to connect with other people thinking through these same decisions. Getting messages from readers means we're doing that right.

What to Expect and When
We read every message we get, and we try to respond within a couple of days during the week. If you're writing on a weekend, expect to hear back Monday or Tuesday. We can't offer professional design services or project estimates—that's not what this site does—but we're always game for talking through a decision you're facing or pointing you toward resources that helped us.
Responses are shorter than our articles, but just as honest. We'll ask follow-up questions if something isn't clear, because half the value of a good conversation is asking the right question in the first place. If what you're working through is outside our wheelhouse, we'll tell you that too, and try to point you somewhere more useful.
One note: we don't accept sponsorships or paid placement, so every recommendation we make comes from our own experience. If you're reaching out to pitch a product, service, or partnership, we appreciate it, but we'll have to politely decline. Our credibility lives in being honest about what works and what doesn't.
